This is a new project and a work in progress. Please return at a later date once I have posted more information.
Mid ground as I've said is the longest part of the painting with: colour and details. The details start to come alive and the colours change to mid-tones. Outlines become more distinct, shapes become clarified, colour brighter and more complex. As the painting takes shape you must keep moving back to take a further view of your painting.
And finally the finishing touches. The darkest darks and the lightest lights. Small strokes here and there of highlights and create more interest.
Knowing how to draw is a key point before you start to paint. Knowing how to create shadowed, round circles and boxed shapes with six sides, barrel shapes that are circular with shadows and light and triangles that are three dimensional. These shapes are used to draw almost everything.
When you can draw you must learn about composition. You want the viewers eye to travel around the painting and back to the beginning. This is done with interest, colour, shape and direction.
So you choose your subject matter: portrait; clothed figure or nude; landscape; buildings; still life; vistas (panoramic view); close up or far away; realism, surrealism, impressionism or contemporary- whatever your choice. And arrange your composition in a very pleasing manor.
There are many different composition layouts to follow: a circle; the Golden mean; Fibonacci ;triangle; cone shapes; and many more.
